.., so as to stir up and validate feelings otherwise left unrealized or ignored. You know, "... just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down...". I think that this film has stirred up a lot of genuine horror in viewers over the years, which is a testament to the effectiveness of the cartoon.
