Hi,
the movie almost lost me, I came close to falling asleep a few times. It's slow paced, have a cup of coffee just before you go in.
I liked it, hard to believe, but it's a movie for middle aged guys. I mean, there are tons of kid flick, thousands of teen flicks, hundreds of chick flicks....every year. How many for middle aged guys?
It's a movie about loss, suffering, emptiness, about the world changing around you in ways you can't change and don't like. It's about a love you can hold, one you can nurture; but not one you can make your own.
I am a little surpised film critics are quite so gaga over it. But it is good, and if you're a middle aged guy you just might suprise yourself by liking this slow paced, bittersweet movie.
Follow Ups:
to the guy who says murray said "He said he loved her, that she would find someone who would love her and care for her"
how did u know that? is it what u think he said, or are u sure? i was under the impression we were left to decide what murrays character said, and not that he actually did say somthing specific.p.s. to all: im an 18 yr old guy, and i loved it too. it may not b a chick flick, but i dont think its a movie exclusive to middle aged men either.
It's a movie for adults.
Hi,
went with my wife and her Sis. Neither liked it. I may be wrong, but that's how I got that way.
.
I haven't quite reached middle age yet, but I've already seen this movie twice and about to see it again. Don't know what it is, I am not a sappy kinda guy, but this movie really grabbed me. I love the subtelty and Murray's expressions.I read that this movie was shot in sequence so that the actors would get to know each other as the characters did. If so, then this worked. That scene near the end when Murray is about to leave and he stands with the group taking a photo and Johansson walks away towards the elevator and his facial expressions watching her walk away is simply brilliant.
beforehand. But I too enjoyed it. Finally, Murray has another vehicle for his talents. Compared to "Last Tango in Paris," another middle-aged guy movie, this one comes up waaaay short, of course. For one, Murray ain't no Brando, nor is Coppola... Bertolucci.
One question: why didn't he put the moves on her?
Secondly, of course, is what the hell did he whisper???
Hi,
they had developed a relationship, sex would have destroyed it.
His involvement was emotional, even a bit paternal. But to hop in the sack would have changed it completely. He said he loved her, that she would find someone who would love her and care for her; I would add an additional sentence, but the guy in the movie wouldn't I suspect.

Hi,
Murray plays Bob Harris, a guy who had some movies in the 70's,but hasn't had any movie roles recently..... not exactly a stretch.
