In Reply to: Re: Name the film... was it sung by " La Callas" ? nt posted by patrickU on October 01, 2003 at 04:59:31:
Lemme start with the hard one - as the Bellini one is too simple.
A man is obsessed, he keeps inviting prostitutes to watch them undress - all he does is sit and watch while Regnava Nel Silenzio plays in the background. One of them European decadent movies. The box cover has the woman's leg on a chair, with the man's face in the background - she's about to remove the stocking.
In the second movie it is not Callas, although it might have been, as her rendition is classic.
Follow Ups:
Is it a film with different directors? or a single one ?
I guess it could be a French Italian production ?
I am sure it is different director - but the problem is I can't recall the title, just the feel, the mood, the sensation and the music in that film. Every time I go to the rental place I see that box on the shelf and I hear the music.
I donīt know..something rings in my head..but I canīt pin point it...
OK.... I went to the rental place, but they have added so much it was possible to spot the tape by its cover - they are all now sitting with their edges exposed, where used to be the fronts. I asked the guy there (the real movie snob) and he said it reminded him of something but he was not sure.BTW - the actor in that film seems to be Patrick Bauchau or Michel Piccoli, from my memory, but I can be wrong.
For the easy movie - the second one was Atlantic City, where Burt Lancaster watches Susan Sarandon undress to the Casta Diva aria from Norma, sang by Elizabeth Harwood... not as good as Callas, but good nonetheless.
The common element between the two movies should be plainly obvious by now.
Atlantic city..i never watched it completely, not that I did not want to, but only had aglimse of it on tv...Highly love picture for cinephile here in Europe. But I do not really like Burt save in one film maybe...it was Local Hero.
For the first one...My langue au chat....( no clue )
