  We all at home enjoyed it very much, and it´s in my short list of The Great Ones. I have a semidecent copy in VHS, and am waiting for it (and everything Kurosawa) in DVD

    there are fewer and fewer every year in this country---show it once in a while.
    By the way, Bernardo, have you seen the Japanese film, wherein the Japanese protagonist goes to Iceland, titled "Cold Fever?"
    Well worth finding: it was on my (and many critics, as well) short list of best year's films five or six years ago.

        different culture, coping with tragedy, and the good nature of the protagonist---it is a classic, to me. Why it wasn't a hit (by indie standards), I don't know.

          Different cultures, yes, but the whole story was not too deep and I recall the ending lead nowhere. It was one of those films you watch and they don't irritate you, but then you quickly forget. There wasn't anything that kept me coming back to if days after.

          Icelandic (!) director. BTW, Vic, you may have remembered the lead Japanese actor from "Mystery Train."
          I still say it's a great film.
