i think the preview looks stupid too, but on the tv show roger ebert said he went in ready to hate this movie and actually found that he really liked it.
it got an 82% favorable rating on rottentomatoes.com (they collect and guage press reviews), which surprises me. that's pretty high for a comedy on the tomatometer.

Couldn't agree more but as I said I was struck by the trailer which I had seen a couple of time so I thought I'd give it a shot and was prepared to walk out if I didn't like it. But I laughed all the way through. It is perfectly cast and consistent. Ebert gave it three stars and a rave review. Highly recommended. I might get the DVD to play at Christmas time.
