I thought the actor who played the doctor overplayed the role more than anything.I try to imagine the movie without mano-a-mano captain-doctor scenes, cello-fiddle duets including.
A musket shot from 10 yards would've ripped through him like he was a sack of tomatos.
Even if he survived...noone removes lead slugs that shatter their ribs.
Even if he did, he would've died from sepsis in 48 hrs tops.
I guess I really hated that character and actor.
The portrayal of the ship life was a killer though.
I'd give M&C 5 huge stars when I was 13.

Have you read 'em all? I was definitely intrigued by the movie. I expect the dialogue is taken straight from the page--can't imagine Hollywood hacks coming up with it.I'm jazzed. I thought it was a great film, or at least a great entertainment.
Don't tell me anything else that I might someday like to be surprised by, though.

Maybe you have become too jaded in your old age. Compared to most of the crap that is offered today, this movie is a success. We can pick at every detail in a movie and find falt with them all. I think you clearly admit that you have some preconceived predudice that you are bringing to this movie, whats with the communist take by the way?
I wouldn't have spent toime discussing utter crap, as I value time in my old age, so I did enjoy parts of the film.--whats with the communist take by the way?
Did you notice the anti-French angle too? Clearly the producers had to have some beef with the French to put something like that in the movie. I wonder what it was...
I guess you missed European history of that period. France (Bonaparte) was a major threat to all, the germans wanted him dead, so did the austrians, the brits, et al.That's why the anti-french slant. That's how that boat's crew woulda felt back then.
I think Beethoven put it best in Wellington's Victory. Go listen to it.
In your first post you said, "The friggin communist doctor". You should make all the comments you feel about a movie, I just don"t agree with some of them.
Most of his role was nagging about things like the inequality of men, the rich and the poor, the opressors and opressed, etc.
I guess we all see what we want to see. You have
Interesting thoughts about the movie, but maybe more than is there. That"s what makes us all individuals.
