Re:the doctor. Apparently the screenwriters mixed'n'matched several O'Brien's books[title is a combination of the 1st and last volumes] as well as the events that unfold in them and made a movie out of it.
Haven't read the books, but Rafael Sabatini was one of my favorites when I was a teenager, and something tells me O'Brien was a better writer. I might just pick up the 1st volume in the series.

I like the idea that more future films could be in the wings, with the action being episodic rather than sequential.For me M&C is like the fifties swashbucklers I missed by some twenty years, only without the cheese that seems to compromise those films. There's something, maybe I said this, but something wholesomely fun about the film, about sea epics...
I just hope that they stick close to the books, at least as far as the dialogue goes.
I will make some calls tonight and see if I can get Mr. Weir to consider you for editor next time around.
