I was expecting "bad" based on comments posted here. I rather enjoyed it, but then again, I grew up watching Japanese Anime movies. To me, this is Japanese anime with real actors and big budget, something only Hollywood could do. A darn good one, too, I might add.How many movies can you name that actually changed the way the "genre" movies are made forever (sci fi action genre in this case)
Matrix DVD set and Lord of the Rings DVD set (directors' cut, hopefully) are one of those things that should be purchased automatically.
Follow Ups:
It certainly wasn't as good as the first, but it was a lot better than the second.

"How many movies can you name that actually changed the way the "genre" movies are made forever (sci fi action genre in this case)"This could certainly apply to the first movie, but the second and third broke no new ground, and are simply (poor) imitators. One way they could have broken new ground was by having believable, three dimensional, complex characters (in an anime-style movie) that actually made you care what happened to them. Easily drawn archetypes have their place, but not for three movies in a row.

as it has been said the impossible mission was following the plot. I was hoping it was left on the cutting room floor in order to reduce the overall length without editting the FX scenes & a director's cut would restore the film.
