It was good, except I have a few beefs with it.Starbuck a woman? What's the point?
Also---why show all the stuff we're familiar with from the last series, and act like it's from the past---while using the same characters from the past? Seems the right thing to do would be to create new characters, IMHO.
Follow Ups:
I found it to be pretty good in places, especially the Cylon female-humanoid protagonist, but obviously there was too much of a temptation to do the bone-headed "old home week" homage to the former series. The card game/fight scene looked goofy and a bit jaring (i.e., the over-the-hill officer blowing his stack at the cigar-chomping blond just didn't cut the mustard for suspension of disbelief). I had no problem with a woman being the lead fighter pilot, but why reprise the Starbuck role? Her rendering was too cafe` latte anyway! ;^)I'll probably watch the second part, but so far I'd only give it a B- based on too many missed opportunities.
Guys,The female "Boomer," "Starbuck." thing notwithstanding...
The story was strong, Olmos was excellent, and the new ships look phenomenal. The Cylon Raider ships looked cooler than anything in the original series.
Cylon Agent 6 was reason enough to watch both parts.
I hope this becomes a series.
The drums in the battle scenes had me crankin' the volume everytime! We brought home a new TV the day before (Loewe 30" Aconda) so we enjoyed the visuals as well!
Thankfully they kept the "cutesy" stuff to a minimum. Next question is...when does the NEW BS Galatica begin??? Hopefully they'll follow up Farscape first.PeteS
If nature loathes a vacuum then why do vac. tubes sound so natural???
When they introduced her, all I could think about was the fact that he should be a man---the expected rouge/scoundrel/lady's man---it was way too distracting, and the card game was way too unbelievable, I agree. I also have no problem with a lead female fighter pilot---just give her a different name! Starbuck, she ain't...The female Cylon was the best part---she did a great job being scary/freaky/psycho. I would have enjoyed a little more of her and less of the Galactica nostalgia.
It was entertaining, even though it doesn't live up to the potential it obviously has...
