Testing out NetFlix and watched this one last night. What to say? Felt like I was watching a b&w talkie from the 30's, not 1956. The acting was, for the most part, excellent. Von Sydow was one weird looking dude in his younger days--very powerful and skullular. I was not bowled over by the symbolism or storyline but was rather touched when the good knight gave the young "witch" a herb to kill her pain before the burning.
One other thing: Swedish is one weird, harsh language--more so than anyother I've heard!

Hi,
there are lots of Bergman films, you really should roughly follow his chronology. Hope you like being depressed.

ALL great films should be seen more than once. Some here consider the Seventh Seal one of the best films ever made, I say it is close.
It is just inversely proportionnal more a film is bad less you want to ever think about.
Seven Seal is just magic, it do not come from the 1956 or 193 what ever..It comes from something metaphysicall we can all ( I presume ) feel but can not pin point nor touch...
It is just magic.
