...one Powell/Pressberger's string of absolutely phenomenal films in the forties. One of my favorites of theirs, although it's often opver-looked. The DVD transfer was supervised by cinematographer Erwin Miller and there are some tasty extras on Criterion's edition including home movies narrated by Thelma Schoonmaker, two interesting docs and excerpts from Powell's 1937 film The Edge Of The WOrld.I also highly recommend P/P's The Life & Death of Colonel Blimp, The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus, if you haven't alreasy seen them.
Follow Ups:
First on Critrion Laserdisc and then on the new DVDs. The ttansfers of these classic are truly stunning, ezpecially "Black Narcissus". And "...Blimp" never ceses to amaze me that it was filmed in color in war time England!
The L&D of Colonel Blimb is nice, the Red Shoes I always sleep in and B. Narcissus is so lala.
Have you seen the Healings Studios films ?
All B pictures but still quite nice!
Black Narcissus is hardly "lala".
Good for you! It hardly make a firm impression on me...
Lala means OK!
or would you call this film excellent?
