She now wants to buy it too.Used to be that reaction was reserved for Bergman or Fellini... and she is usually not inclined to love what she calls "woman's" films. Admittedly the Friday Night even though you can feel it was made by a woman is not a "woman's" film, if you know what you mean.
There's more... she also wants to buy the Beau Travail - I suspect looking at my aging body has been enough - she wants to see those masculine legionaires.
I better start on some weights.
Follow Ups:
It's an excellent flick. Granted there's some serious beefcake (European style) but it's done with a woman's eye. The composition of the scenes is almost unbelievably good. I'll never forget the men going through their grueling practice courses -- then doing their own ironing. Is that irony, or what?Don't know if this is giving anything away, but, the plot is based on Billy Budd -- and some of the music comes from Britten's opera of the same name.
No wonder Agnes Varda shoot the film!
This film is only avaible in the US! ( not in France ) so my question is what is the spoken language on this dvd? if French can you annule the subtitles or not ?
No info on this at Amazon...
Yes, it is in French with English subs, and they can be turned off.On Amazon there are tons of used ones... apparently the film didn't sit well with the LOTR crowd. 25 of them, from $13.90.
Ordered. ( so good as ) i read a wonderful French review on this film. Tonight after mr Suchy will install his newest update on my record player I am to have a " guilty pleasure"...a real one!
"Le mystere de la chambre jaune*.."after Gaston Leroux ( remember Arsene Lupin? )...It will propulse me 40 years back.....
Can´t wait!
Say hello to Suchy for me - is that the young one?Le Mystere... do you mean the 1930 version? There are four different ones... but... none available here.
Yes! It is Robert. He just came in and can remember you from your first meeting in Brasil ....Anyway he says " best regards to you! "
No the 2003 version!
I don't know the director - Bruno Podalydès - is he any good? Is that his wife in the lead role? Smart move! He-he...
So he just left, a real nice guy..he could not do it at my home as something was wrong, so he took it with him and I will have it back with all the new update possible in late january.....as a new year present....I gave him a good bottle of wine...
I don´t know him neither!
Maybe I have seen a film from him I will check that later if the film is of any good...Long time ago I learn to concentrate only on things that are really captiving..for the rest..consume and forgotten.
Now in the meantime it is late and I don´t know if I should not report it until domani !
A good cigar and a good eau de vie...may changr my mood..
Good night!
