...I nominate Depardieu. This man is simply incredible in all his roles. Look at just the sheer number of great ones he has made - it is astonishing. Cane is also extremely prolific, but perhaps less even.I just can't think about another one who is as natural as Depardieu. Every time it seems like he didn't even have to prepare - he simply walks into the role and starts being... And even though Grant had a lot of charisma, Depardieu had redefined that word. At the first sign of him on the screen most female hearts start melting away. This while the man is "traditionally" speaking not your Carry Grant "pretty" type.
Depardieu usually doesn't call attention to himself, not like some lesser actors do so often, he simply captivates and grasps you all the way until the final credits and beyond.
Just to think how lucky we are to have that guy, who is still young and full of energy. For those unfamiliar with his art - fortunately most rental places would have many of his works, they are not too obscure in US. Just get the list off the www.imdb.com and go get them. And fall in love...
is Jack Nicholson. You see one his movies, you know who it is when
he first appears on screen, and then you forget. He somehow just
becomes the character, probably better than any actor I can think
of (except perhaps Olivier ...). His masterpiece is Chinatown, I
think. Mike
