In Reply to: I saw the 3rd LOTR movie . . . posted by Troy on January 02, 2004 at 23:03:29:
Perhaps it would've been better had you and your wife waited until The Return of The King opened at the dollar house. Troy, it's just my opinion, but the idea of sneaking into films makes me a little uncomfortable, regardless of what the film happens to be; never did this kind of thing as a teenager and have to wonder about adults doing it. I realize that there are a lot of gray areas surrounding copyrighted material, downloading, etc, but technically speaking, viewing a program being offered as an attraction without paying for it is tantamount to theft.Sorry if this seems judgmental; folks can jump on me for taking this too seriously if they like, but there you have it.
Follow Ups:
First he brags,in a Porcupine Tree concert review at RR,about his driving around after the concert so inebriated he can hardly walk. And now he brags about sneaking into a movie.
What's the matter Troy? That vomit you call art that you try to sell moving a little slow???
No extra money???
Mom and dad raise the rent for the basement?
You have the morals and brains of a 12 year old.

Hiya YECH. Haven't seen ya for a while. They accidentally loosen the straight-jacket enough for you to reach the keys?It takes the morals and brains of a 12 year old to tell someone they have the morals and brains of a 12 year old.
Sorry, sneaking into the theater is not a federal case.
So much zest and unbridaled anger. tsk tsk. So personal, so overwhelmingly over the top. You are sure a one, there YECHY.

People that work in the arts (i.e., music, film, painting, books, etc.) have to make a living and are deserving of every penny from their copyrighted materials! There are rare exceptions, as when the artist doesn't mind his/her work being freely taped or when non-commercially released work is offered to fans by fans, although that can be a gray area dependent upon the quality of work offered and the impact on sales of the consumer product.

For once we concur on something Audi.
the earth has stood still.
Sneaking into movies is juvenile.
And shows a lack of moral character.

YECHy
And want to shoot people who do because they interupt my attention span by stumbling around trying to find a seat. The personnel at theatres are too young and timid to standup to feature theft.Whatever happened to the mean-ass little old ladies with the flashlights?

A starving garage band? No, I'm gonna buy their CD if I like it, even if a freebie CD-r is made for me.But a movie that makes $100,000,000 in it's first month of release? Bite me you rich Hollywood scum, they don't need my 10 clams.
Bite me you immature, socialistic scum!
In Vino Veritas
Sneaking into a movie is like taking pens home from work. You Boy Scouts are so over the top about this, it's hilarious.
Artists have to eat and pay the rent too.
As a writer, photographer and illustrator, I know all too well the pitfalls and frustrations of copyright theft.I suppose for me it's a question of expense. LOTR is already over 100 million at the box office. There's just SO much $ involved with the movie industry that they'll not miss my 10 bucks.
All the dollar houses areound here are truly disgusting. I'd have to bring a plastic tarp to sit on.
As a Hollywood guild member and sound engineer I'm glad to hear you think we've made enough money. You obviously don't have a clue about what it costs to make a film or about how many lose money before a hit comes around. Just how do you go about choosing your point of conscionable theft ? Is it after 10mil or 20mil or 50mil ?If Walmart has 80 Xbox in the display is it OK to heist one, but not OK if they only have 20 ? Grow up and pay others for their efforts as you expect to be paid for yours.
Hey Steve, I have friends behind the camera too. You've already been paid long before the movie hits the street. The people making money off the gross are the ones that are already overpaid. As of 12/28, LOTR has grossed $228 millon. Who cares about my 10 bucks?
Your Xbox analogy is off the mark. I equate slipping into a second movie after paying for the first to be the equivalent of bringing pens home from work.
I buy most of my DVDs and CDs on the used market. The used market is flooded with free promotional copies. You pissed at me about buying those too?
