After many years, watched "Z" recently.Hate to admit it, but it almost turned me into a communist. I know, "almost" doesn't count, however, here is the question.
There is no doubt that the cinematographer's perspective in an extremely powerful tool. Often we see the director take on some cause and, thank to his skills, turn it into a strong statement, agitating people, upsetting some, angering others.. In some cases the cause is just, in others... you get the picture.
"Z" certainly falls into that "distorted perspective" category. It undoubtedly took Yves Montand much longer than it should have to understand the fallacies of communist teachings, but eventually he moved away from that evil doctrine. I don't know if he ever regretted making that movie, and perhaps today this is not too important.
However, the question: what other movies do you think represent some sort of extremely distorted viewpoint coupled with a strong and talented presentation? Which ones came close to convincing you of something that you would "normally" consider not even remotely palatable?
Or perhaps this subject is too politically sensitive and the response will be nill...
Anyone recalls ANY movie where the business owner was portrayed as a good guy, opposing the greedy and ruthless union bosses, for instance?
BTW, I don't count the "cute thief" commedies in this category (Who can forget "How to Steal a Million" - not in million years! Boy, what a wonderful classic!). There have definitely been many of these. So please, something a bit more *heavy*...

... that "Air Force One" & "Independence Day" portayed a president with a single child that being a young daughter wasn't accidental. This thinly veiled promotion via WJC's Hollywood cronies was supposedly meant to psychologically transfer positive behavior onto the negative public employee who currently resides at 1600 Pensylvania Ave.I hope that's not why the press stopped the public from demanding his pink slip.
***I hope that's not why the press stopped the public from demanding his pink slip.I suspect one could explain it in cynical terms: that guy can't even hurt us, he is too lame for that, he just floats with the flow of good economy, so no worries on the pocketbook front. He does, however, possess great entertainment value. Which presidency had provided more raw fun and nasty gigles, and made the "serious" newspapers look more like the National Inquirer? That is why public wanted him to stay for another act - like most great comediants... like a court fool with bells. Heavens willing, perhaps the next month is going to be even funnier.
... the amount of pure divisive hatred this man shovels out on a regular basis as a relentless convoy has me worried ... if it's nature didn't influence all those students do go postal.Surely, if violent video games & movies are supposed to cause detrimental effects on youth, how much does this daily berating liablous slander about the people's most direct&in-touch representatives do? (Don't get me wrong, I'm only talking about the last 10% delegated to environmental effects & the other 90% is still personal responsibility) It can't be beneficial.
Take your hint from the French aristocrats, some of whome laughed all the way to the final fall of the guillotine...By comparisson, your fate is, well, sorry, laughable... (pun intended)
Spirit, my friend, spirit... don't let bastards see you suffer.
... how you really feel! Enough with this sugar coating & skirting the issues. Don't you know that all these pent-up suppressed emotions are bad for you? {LOL}

... they light up.
Very interesting Big Willie banter though. How Clinton ended up turning into a tube discussion was very cool indeed. I still need to think about this conversation for awhile.Hmmmmm.....
OK, I'm done.

P.S. Victor, who are you designing tube gear for? Sorry for the stupid question but I'm rather new here. Thanks.

***Victor, you have any dealers in or near Boston?Yes, the stores in Arlington MA, North Darthmouth, Nashua NH, North Hampton carry our stuff. E-mail me if you need more information.
Gentlemen, this is perhaps getting too specific for the general group, so e-mail me.
VictorI don't know if this counts but "Other People's Money" when Gregory Peck
makes the impassioned plea for the workers it almost brings you to tears,
you think how can you argue with that. Enter Danny DeVitto presenting the
corporate view and it swayed me.Richard Jura
