In my view it was a much-below-average-made-for-US-television caliber piece of crap with no redeaming values. Actors didn't have to play much, they had masks over their faces most of the time.A very cheap disaster movie - pun intended.
Why did you ask?
I have not watched many "new" movies in the last few years. But
I did watch this one (think my wife insisted on renting it).
Unadultered crap.Mike

... lost an oportunity to showcase Russo & Hoffman talents. "Sphere" delved even deeper into unmitagated crap than "Outbreak", IMHO. "Sphere" exhibited all the lack of competant direction of "Lost Horizon". These are some of the main reasons why CG/FX get such a bad rap. Even though it's just the latest gimmick, a modern chase scene, as it were.Is it the crop of new directors? I still can't get over the behind the scenes of "Ronin" where the director was prominently concerned about the credibility of the action scenes (car chases & shoot outs). Did anyone who watched the flick really give a good damn about this (aside from the Frech Connection groupies who were DTing from the lack of a decently done scene)? I'd rather someone work with the Reno & DeNiro characters. That's where the charm resides. The action is an excuse to reveal their covert characters as these dark individuals learn to trust eachother in this inethical environment.
Just how hard is it to make a decent movie?
Forget Ronin, forget Bullitt - if you want to see the best chase scene ever, check out Le Casse' (The Burglars) from 1972 with Jean-Paul Belmondo. The film climaxes with a breakneck chase through the crowded streets of Athens on a Kawasaki 900 Z1 - the chase in integral to the story and not just a tacked on film device. My standard offer follows: rent this film, and if your palms aren't sweating after this scene, I will pay for the rental.....
