Get Shorty is a minor favorite of mine. i like to think that if Pulp Fiction had a heart, panache, and wit; it just might grow up to be Get Shorty.
I think Pulp Fiction and Taxi Driver are the two most misunderstood
movies of all times. This is probably why they spawned lots of
violent wannabees. Queentin Tarantino was inspired by John Woo,
and yet is a better communicator. Pulp Fiction is definitely his
best -- deeply profound, meaningful, and open to interpretations.
I enjoyed Reservoir Dogs as well, but I think Pulp Fiction was
more coherently expressed and beautifully executed. If you haven't wondered what was in the briefcase, try this http://gwarv.pvv.org/pulp/case.htm
Although some of Tarrentino's stuff is just violence driven dreck, I really enjoyed Pulp Fiction and Jacky Brown...not that they didn't have their share of violence, but the characters and storylines in both were good enough to overshadow.
is a good example of the film's (and Walken's) excellent comedic timing and deadpan delivery. It takes a certain amount of skill, even talent, to tell a joke really well, let alone to get it on film well.
I'd completely forgotten about him( Walken) being in the movie. Both my son and son-in-law remembered the part you speak of vividly when I inquired today. My favorite Walken recently was his role in Suicide Kings. One of the better "sleepers" of the last couple yrs. IMHO.
I liked it, but I liked "Reservoir Dogs" better though. Quentin Tarrantino seems to like a lot of blood though.MiKe
Along with Peter Jackson's "Heavenly Creatures", I thought it was the best film of 1994. My problem with it is that it spawned a whole bunch of inferior wannabees that featured lousy dialog with "attitude", "loveable" criminals, and ridiculously-twisted "plots". Watch "Eight Heads in a Dufflebag" as an example of this kind of crap; they're showing it on Comedy Central at least two times a week. One exception this year was "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels"; recommended if you can deal with the high body count.
Frankly I find it astonishing that anyone interested in film *couldn't* like this movie, but....... differnet strokes I guess. As much as I admire Pulp - and everytime I watch it I discover something new - I personally prefer Reservoir Dogs for its raw energy and emotion (although it is the more immature work and uneven at times).
I also love True Romance which was scripted by Tarantino and is the only movie by Tony Scott I consider worth watching.
BTW, Pulp proved that Bruce Willis can act - why does he continue to waste his time and talent on dreck like Armageddon, etc.?
