First one is "My Wife is an Actress"... a delightful comedy, the stuff the French do so well, featuring none other than Charlotte Gainsbourg - we talked about her just a couple of days ago.More than worth the price of a rental... French fluff that will keep you smiling if not laughing long enough to loosen up your arteries and fill you with good mood. What more do you want for your $3.75?
The second one... be prepared - it is not for everyone.
"Maelstrom" is a Canadian movie by Denis Villeneuve (never heard that name before, but will be on a lookout from now on), and it is something that requires serious attention.
The movie produces strong emotions... VERY strong emotions. Your emotions might - and most likely WILL - change as the plot develops, but sit tight for a ride you will most likely not forget soon.
This is a masterful film that just doesn't let you relax and think about something outside the screen... it is intense in its deceptively relaxed representation. It deals with very serious subjects, but does that unobtrusively, almost matter-of-factly... until it smashes you with so much tension that you almost cry for mercy.
A must for every serious movie lover... easy to say that... so there.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of this?
The major drawback is geography. The closest distribution center to me is Atlanta, about 440 mi away. I can turn a disk around in six days. I figure if I can get 12 a month I'm getting more than my money's worth. Lately, "blips" in shipment have occurred that has now thrown off the turn-around by a day or more. I track it on a spread sheet to gauge how I'm doing. Btw, I watch the disk the night I get it and drop it at the indoor mail slot at my post office the next day. They don't have "everything" but at 15k titles they have most of it. For twenty smokes a month it's pretty good and you can get plans for 5 or 8 simultaneous rentals. If you are a busy guy, three is plenty.
Here is some info on that chain, and if you live not too far away, boy, are you in luck!Of course in Phily the TLA is the king.
they wouldn't fly here in the Rust/Bible belt.
It is a very small chain around Baltimore, heavily oriented towards good films.
