I am a late comer to this but recently caught most of a Hi Def broadcast and fell under its spell. So just watched my LD copy and now feel it is a brilliant film, very well acted and very funny. One can see Bill Murray on his way to "Lost in Translation" here. And Andie McDowall, well, she is just wonderful as always.
Follow Ups:
genuine talent in the maturing of the character. N. Carolina's treasure, Andie, showed she can act, as well as look stunning just standing around.
Very funny? I don´t know! Very repetitif yes! a little too muche maybe? Oh yes. It is not only a nightmare for Bill Murray in the film but also for me in real life watching it.
Ok it is an acceptable comedy who long for more philosophy that is NOT in its range.
But a enjoyable one.

My favorite Murray until Translation. Groundhog's story overpowered the players but it was still a showcase for Murray and Andie.Rushmore was a good effort by Murray but Jason Schwartzman smoked him and stole the show. (Poor Schwartzman should have given up acting after that "one hit wonder".)
Intellectuels that was fashionnable in the late 90´s like..Magniola or Traffic or the kind, empty like empty can be.
Rushmore was totally offbeat and out of step with the mainstream. You need more western enculturation.
You see, the problem is that this film want to be so hard all what you said, but never could delivered.
Have you seen Salo?
After that one needs actually more enculation....
Once we obstain from dismantling it into nothingness, all that's left is an almost visceral enjoyment of this flick.
Isn't there anything we all regret about life? At least that guy had a million chances to make it right.
It was a fun little film, thank in large part to Andie.I have been quite suspicious of her, expecting your typical model-turn-"actress" (the horror of Cindy still fresh in my mind) and I fould a delightful actress with great presence of human qualities, sense of humor and simply tons of good taste.
She is joy to watch in every film she made, and one of my favorites is Green Card, where she truly shines. She brought many of her best qualities to the Day, and that to great degree offset the Bill's rather silly acting.
To borrow from a poet - she stepped into a deep cacarella while in 4 Weddings and A Funeral - perhaps the ultimate yuppie film.
She was at her most beautiful self in sex, lies and videotape.
but there is another performance of hers that is even better and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the film. It takes place in the south and Andie plays a famous soap opera star who has been seriously injured and has returned home to recuperate. There is a lot of great zydeco music in this one ans also an equally great performance bu her caretaker.Does anyone remember the name? I have it on laserdisc but I'll be damned if I'll go through the collection if someone can pinpoint it for me.
Now there are two ( poets ).
4 Weddings & a Funeral is no cacarello(a ) it is funny, and very English, well played, even Hugh in his very limited range has been cast " for mesure " properly. Think only of Kristin Scott, she was so lovely and smart acting, all in finesse!
Yuppie film? How do you come to this curious conclusion? I would say films with Michael J. Fox at this period of time where!
4 Weddings is just a nice little comedie and with " Room with a view " two of the nicest in their kinds.
You are just jealous of Hugh´s capability to get all the girls!
Go in your corner and write 100x:
Dmitry est jaloux...
--Think only of Kristin Scott, she was so lovely and smart acting, all in finesse!Ahh, yes, the female John Malkovitch impersonator. Forgot she was even there.
--You are just jealous of Hugh´s capability to get all the girls!
Ahem. Elizabeth Hurley was his beard for a while. Doesn't mean he's into "girls".
------------------
That film was as fake as that Mona Lisa reproduction you got hanging in the Louvre.
Forgot the " French thing " in Hollywood?
He is into girls! Maybe with a touch of " Maurice? " That is not unusual, he got the English education...
It was a good comedy.
I hate movies about rich people having fun and dying from a linguini accident when they're 87.
If you carry on.
Maybe a " KakaWeb " would suffice your appetite?
The linguini accident is the only accident worse with 87, or do you thing the cunnilingus accident is still possible at this age?
I have good teachers here.

And as far as a director producing bad films, there's a good Latin word cacator for him.
The only thing redeeming about that flick was that it wasn't in French.
Otherwise it's a complete chicken cacatore.
It has to.
You guys lost me.And where is your report from last night?
I don't even remember her in 4 Weddings... that was a snoozer I thought. And no argument about Sex, she was lovely there.Just looks like she's got that natural talent for acting - her best moments always seem purely spontaneous, and she touches with her unpretentiousness.
A snoozer witthout Bill? How does it come Victor?
is that she's always subdued, almost docile.
But I brought a girl with a similar personality home to meet the parents, so I shouldn't really complain.Of all the model-turned-actresses she's perhaps the loveliest.
...watching one of the movies I sent you?I have an excuse - I am bone dry, and there is nothing on TV.
Liza just fell asleep. In a few minutes we'll quietly slip in and tune in.
Wonder what we should start with... You did me right !
Patrick will love you.
If he has the mental capability to appreciate this film!
