As I started writing this title, I looked at the imdb... and the first thing I noticed was another viewer's words: Run, do not walk...I still decided to keep the title, as it really tells it all.
Kukushka is a Finnish/Russian film about the end of WWII between Finland and the USSR. Two soldiers from the warring armies find refuge in the hut of a simple Lapp woman. Three people... three different languages, and none of them understands a word of what the others say.
To say the film is moving is to say nothing. And I can assure you the death walk scene will keep you on the edge of your chair... it is mesmerizing.
Follow Ups:
Does Orville Redenbacher make microwave Brussels sprouts? Unbuttered and unsalted, of course. Better yet, if I paint the wall behind my TV, could I watch that dry instead?
I doubt the paint will be your main attraction - the movie is extremely lively. There's that horny Lapp woman, and she, after four years of living alone, gets two men at once - is that not enough for a popcorn house trailer?
... more than your thrall over a "death walk" scene. I'll keep an eye out for it, but something tells me that my local Block Buster Video store isn't going to stock it.
.
Done! My library is getting larger and larger....
I never bought as many as in the recent weeks, and I think all I bought were great.Do you also rent? I don't recall your mentioning it.
No, I never! I should, but I use to rent VHS in the time before DVD...and it was very frustating as you get the " hit parade " only.
I will make a walk one of this day with my son, who sometimes does, to see if the situation is better now, but I doubt it...
That is shame. As I mentioned many times, the store we have here is something completely special, with the latest movies from all over the world arriving to it daily, most of course on DVD's.So tonight it will be Between Your Legs... when I brought it home yesterday Anya looked at the title and mumbled something about the midlife crisis and a few other nasty things... I assured her that was a hightly recommended and very artistic movie... maybe even that Bernardo loved it... don't remember now... he-he...
Fortunately she is still reliving the experience of Kukushka, so perhaps she will not hit as hard tonight...
I woke up this morning to the memories of the Kukushka - the three characters are so well defined and with such great sense of humor, they will be with you for long time.
After the Legs, there are two Kurosawas, and then... who knows? The shelves were still full last time I checked!
