And there should be no age discrimination. The old hag in the Shining was a good start. Let's not forget - we old farts know how to suck in our beer bellies!
Follow Ups:
Kathy Bates in "About Schmidt".
Now you telling me I missed THAT?
Yes! You are missing Bates naked.
What a BAD film.
I saw "About Shmidt" twice and loved it both times. Now maybe it's because I myself retired at about the same time but I thought that Nicholson captured the disorietation and "look" of a man in that position. I loved when he saw his life's work thrown away in the rubbish. I loved when he discovered his wife's 25 year old affair. I loved the way his friend's speech made us feel uncomfortable and set us up for Schmidt's speech at his daughter's wedding. What's not to like here, except that Jack was not nominated again for best actor.
It´s very, very good. And found nothing to dislike in it.Regards

I have retired twenty years ago, and my death wish would never to look like Jack in this film.
Let us speak of " As good as.." this one I did really dig.
Let me add mine... As Good As It Gets I thought was a rather weak film. Had a few moments, but... sorry Patrick!
As Good as... Was a neat & well played little comedy, Jack had his tailoring " sur mesure ".
A little weak ( read boring ) after the two third , I still like it very much.
Doncha think he perfectly caught the mid-western life long actuarial angst of such a character at that age? From the clock watching first minute he had me hooked.
Hélas mon ami! From the start I did found it overplayed, sticky, pretentious, and boring over the top.
What you did appreciate in this film I did do ( the condition of the man ) but the rendition was catastrophale.
