I didn't say Veber lost it completely, of course they have French flavor, but not the French esprit.
They were not terrible movies, but remembering Veber's comedies of the yesteryear, these 2 couldn't compete in the same league.
It's tough to be consistently good in this business, I guess.

His earlier works like The Tall Blond Man, and the Goat were funny, but I would not say the Closet and Dinner Game were any lower on laughing scale than the Tall Man. If anything they are more refined, with better dialogue. The dialogue in the Tall Man was quite crude by comparisson.
Of course I only heard these in translation... the Tall Man, actually, in Russian dubbing, which usually was quite good.

      In Philadelphia, homosexuality was totally taboo, the very macho/ puritan way...The Closet was just the contrary in spirit ( more... What ? You are not homosexual, quel dommage! )
