--No I donīt think that you are right, there is something intrinsically French in both of themI didn't say Veber lost it completely, of course they have French flavor, but not the French esprit.
They were not terrible movies, but remembering Veber's comedies of the yesteryear, these 2 couldn't compete in the same league.
It's tough to be consistently good in this business, I guess.
Follow Ups:
No, I must insist, they very well have " the French esprit " in " Le Dinner.." the typically arrogance, in " Le Placard " the way to act with Homosexuality in the French society today. That a more.
I lend Victor movies when I have them to lend. If he doesn't like some, no big deal for me, cause that's life.
You have carried on about this for too friggin long.I'll repeat -- I DIDN'T LIKE THESE FUCKING MOVIES
End of story. Either learn to live with it or continue to be boring.
I carry as long you do, and I stop when I will.
For Christ's sake it's a discussion forum, not a free lesson in good taste. I've got enough of that stuff; but if you're willing to support my movie library by your kind donations we can coninue on indefinitely.
A good start would be the compelte Kurosawa Criterion collection.
Let's not kill each other until we have a chance to see the last good movie. Then we shall commit irezumi.
Yep... would be nice to get most of the Criterion. About 80% I feel.
The two of you just killed me with this huge thread.--Then we shall commit irezumi.
I'm not getting no tattoos, sorry. Masha will notice almost right away, I'm sure of that.
The tattoo might be the goal, but if I recall it was the process of getting it that made all the difference... if you know what I mean...
His earlier works like The Tall Blond Man, and the Goat were funny, but I would not say the Closet and Dinner Game were any lower on laughing scale than the Tall Man. If anything they are more refined, with better dialogue. The dialogue in the Tall Man was quite crude by comparisson.Of course I only heard these in translation... the Tall Man, actually, in Russian dubbing, which usually was quite good.
I think we should have a rule here on discussing comedies - NO DISCUSSIONS OF COMEDIES.Sense of humor is the most individual of senses.
***I think we should have a rule here on discussing comedies - NO DISCUSSIONS OF COMEDIES.Not even with AuPh? And he thought Closet was as socially significant as Philadelphia, except set in a more primitive society.
In Philadelphia, homosexuality was totally taboo, the very macho/ puritan way...The Closet was just the contrary in spirit ( more... What ? You are not homosexual, quel dommage! )
The best in Phil. was the singing of " La Callas ".
A wonderful actress on the Opera scene, a terrible one in " Medea ".
I don't disagree.Xe xe.
Tell me you didn't you pay $50 for the Dinner Game?! That's how much it costs on Amazon.
I see it there for $10... used. $13 new. I suspect that's what I paid.
I wouldn't imagine something like that.
