Guilty pleasure indeedGraham
Follow Ups:
Everyone leaves microbes'n whatnot! Hell, that's your forte, trackin' down them microbes left by criminals'n commies'n sh*t! That's yer whole damn raison d'etre! No leads?! I want Nathan Jr. back, or whichever the hell one they took! He's out there SOMEwhere! Somethin' LEADS to him! And anyone can find him knows the difference between a lead and a hole in the ground!!

I don't think I could feel guilty about liking any of the Coen Brothers movies.Raising Arizona is a personal favorite. So stylish, so funny, so manic. Amazing cinematography too.
I have a lot of admiration for the Coens' films, but I'm wondering if they may have bitten off more than they can chew by trying to remake "The Ladykillers."
I donīt think so, stylish they are, but I never REALLY enjoy them, I never had the wish to view them twice, I remember " The man who was not there " I had admiration, but no love for it. I miss something.
Loved it. What a fantastic understated film noir homage!I find Coens movies are best on about the 3rd viewing. All the subtleties connect by then. With one or 2 exceptions, all their movies give me great pleasure. You can see their love of movies in everything they make.
I think they will do fine with the Ladykillers. I have no doubt that these guys can do any kind of movie.
Amazing film!
Had me glued in my seat from beginning to end.
Tony Shalhoub as a shark-lawyer was nothing short of brilliant.
I think I'll buy the dvd.
Yes, yes and yes, but in the end it did leave me cold, I admire the handicraft! And I would like to love it.
The same for all of the bunch. Specially for " Barton Fink " this one leave me cold in anyway.
Ladykillers..Hum, who will be as good as Sir Alec?
There comes a time in every Coen Brothers film where something just whacky happens and you say to yourself, "Only in a Coen Brothers film." Examples are when the woman talking about aliens arrives in "TMWWT" or when the Japanese classmate calls Marge in the middle of the night in "Fargo" or when Paul Newman falls out the window and there's a flashback to his tailor in "The Hudsucker Proxy".
Or did I miss it, after having seen this film four times?Regards
I agree there is no such magic Coen moment in "Miller's Crossing" which is probably why it's my least favorite of their efforts. I should have said "...in MOST Coen Brothers films".
Perhaps because it doesn't have the element of unexpected, like the other ones you mentioned?
MC does not delve anywhere surreal but sticks to the story instead.
Imho, it is a head above the touted film that was somewhat modeled after it - Road to Perdition.
The hudsucker was a failed attempt. I thing that Fargo was maybe the most valid of what they have done...till now. It was the more complete.
...Blood Simple was the most complete. IMO.
--The hudsucker was a failed attempt.
To be a film. Remember it was somekind of a remake.
It was? I didn't know that. What was the original called?
It was Capraīs " Meet John Doe " with Gary Cooper. An old, but very good film. Humanistic and with a touch that some would call " utopian " but those who donīt feel this way are the real utopians.
Have you seen " The lost Horizon? "
The mother of a lot of films. Fascinant.
Are you sure Hudsucker was molded after Meet John Doe ?
Of course, at my age I can mixed up things.....But I look and I did not...
I know that this film does not have a large following but it remains one of my favorites. There are obvious references to other films
("The Front Page", "Star Wars", "Superman", etc.) but I don't think this highly original film is a remake of anything. It perfectly captures the fifties and makes a great double bill with "Quiz Show".
It was " Meet Joe Doeī s" Capra. I saw twice, better say one time and a half. I just did not like it, I remember only to found it totally boring and having nothing of the magic the original had.
Which " Front Page " there are so many! The Quiz Show..is a film I like ! All falls together in this one.
I bought it.
