I agree there is no such magic Coen moment in "Miller's Crossing" which is probably why it's my least favorite of their efforts. I should have said "...in MOST Coen Brothers films".

Perhaps because it doesn't have the element of unexpected, like the other ones you mentioned?
MC does not delve anywhere surreal but sticks to the story instead.
Imho, it is a head above the touted film that was somewhat modeled after it - Road to Perdition.How about that John Torturro!!!
