far better than the 1960s remake with Peter O'Toole. (O'Toole was fine but the movie was a big mistake).Another fine film that has a similar feeling to Donat's "Goodbye Mr. Chips" is a 1955 John Ford film called "The Long Gray Line." It starred Tyrone Power and it's as sentimental without being silly or cloying as is "Mr. Chips."
Follow Ups:
There is a new English version ( TV ) 2002, that is not bad. But Donat was just so good. I love this actor.
