In Reply to: Remakes? why not the 1973 movie "DUEL" posted by Bolt_Snypr on February 19, 2004 at 12:43:57:
This was origianlly a short story published shortly before in Playboy. When the TV film became so successful, Spielberg shot extra footage (the school bus sequence, the rattlesnake lady) to lengthen it to minimum feature film length, and it had a brief theatrical run and became a cult hit in Europe. Because they had destroyed the truck they had to come up with an identical one which they found impossible. So they disguised a SIMILAR truck but you can clearly see the differences if you are aware of this. Every time in the past 30 years I have seen one of these trucks on the road (especially behind me) I shudder and think of this gem of a film.
Follow Ups:
Just heard that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was scheduled to be remade. WHY!? I grew up watching this on the Disney Channel!
Spielberg's first movie. One of the best made for TV movies I've ever seen, but then again, I haven't seen it in decades.I kinda don't want to see it remade. All I think of is the horrendous remake of that other great road flick from the same era; "Vanishing Point".
Enjoy these movies for what they are and let the film-makers make something new.
