Haley Joel Osmet proves once again his considerable talent, and typically wonderful performances from Michael Caine and Robert Duvall. Nice directing effort for the first-time screenwriter/director. The special features section was interesting with the history of the script in Hollywood and behind the scenes look. I hope Hollywood continues to make these "feel-good" family films as opposed to some of the shoot-em up, blow-em up, slit-their-throats stuff that they usually put out...
Follow Ups:
There is apparently no material the two great actors would not be able to treat to the viewer's pleasure - it is natural to them as a good brush stroke to Rembrandt.I would gladly join you in your hope - that movie is of course better than most Hollywood production, but it still suffers from too much maple syrup... it is drenched in it, making it hard to swallow.
Looks like the Hollywood producers only know two commands - hard left and hard right.
Too much of "feel good" can also make you feel bad.
that the movie was a success in a variety of ways...But I still say I'd rather see it served up with a little extra syrup than the typical Hollywood stuff like "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" that was a waste of time, talent and money....
Hi,
it stands up to a second viewing. Really nice movie, can't get over the idea of a lion living in a cornfield.
