The first ( and not the last ) film from Isabelle Nanty, already knowed for her role in " Amelie" and of the depictable "Asterix: Mission Cléopâtre ". She has made a very Parisian film, with a lot of humor, very quick and with sensitive dialogues, VERY nice children playing, and for our days and times not politically too correct.
Nothing exceptionnal but just nice.
Just funny.
Follow Ups:
Sure, the story is corny and at times unbearably so, but the film offers enough in many areas to make it worth your hour and a half. This might be the Hugh Grant's finest performance - he is extremely natural in this unnatural role, and is actually a joy to watch.
Believe me, you could do whole lot worse with your rent money.
A sweet natured and pleasant movie. It was much better than I thought it was gonna be.Grant was perfectly cast. His character was exactly what the public perception of his real personality is like. Smug, spoiled and rich. By the end of the movie his character grows immeasurably so the average viewer thinks that Grant himself grew. Shrewd career move.
I too wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is.
...I could figure out exactly what kind of watch was that spoiled rich kid wearing, I would be a happy camper. It is a large one that looks almost square.
Judging by his cloth and digs that was not a $30 special.
Well it belongs to my guilty pleasure....But I like " About a boy " ( I saw him twice..) and "Notting Hill "..You see I am getting sugar coated & diped in honey..& Feathered and giving to the wolfes, for a light snack....
Hugh has a very strong sense of humor, when I see him in talk show he is really so British..A delight...and don´t forget the episode with the Miami whore...Nice guy..Hehehe..
Yes, his delivery was almost flawless, the timing, the intonations, the mimics, the expressions, all done quite well.It is really heartwarming to see someone like him to break into the major league - I think he can do it.
Yes one should always gives a hand. But I do not think that he can do better, his range is just to short, his mimic is just to limited.
I saw him with my son in his latest film " Love Actually* " and in it all his past demons just reappeared.
But I still love him. Even if he got seriously on my nerves. Not a good film, but one that is made for the maid, who dream to marry prince charming...I enjoy part of it. I will buy the DVD.
It was surprising to see Grant play a role with some sensitivity. I enjoyed it.
