while the production values are high in the trilogy, I wasn't in love with these films...I can feel the heat already, but I much prefer the Indiana Jones or Star Wars trilogies to this one. The last installment was unbearably LONG! When Frodo is hanging over the molten lava with the ring dangling I wanted to yell DROP THE F*#$ING RING! The scene just seemed to drag on forever and just when I thought it was over there was more to the ending... Okay let the flames begin....
Follow Ups:
I've got the Indiana Jones set; it hasn't aged as well as I thought it would. I still like Spielberg's Indiana Jone's movies, but LoTR is worlds away from the now-dated Indy flicks; I think that it's Harrison Ford's acting that I'm finding bothersome, in retrospect. BTW, I expect (i.e., hope) my appraisal will be the exact opposite of Lucas's Star Wars saga, ironically enough, but only because of the abysmal quality of the prequels.Personally, I loved LoTR: RoTK, including Frodo fighting with Gollum for possession of the Ring over the lava of Mount Doom and the mildly anti-climactic winding down of the story through a sequential follow-up of the central characters. Those who are avid Tolkien fans would've probably found any abrupt ending without the episodic aftermath unsatisfying.
NOW.
In defending films I consider great achievements I certainly haven't been as aggressive in insulting individual taste around here as a couple of folks who shall remain nameless. ;^) So, do you have anything of value to add to this discussion besides damp kindling (i.e., which produces more smoke than heat)?
