Though it in no way detracts from its enormous entertainment value, it is surprising that there are a number of contiuity issues in this classic 1975 film.1.Early on, Chief Brody types in July 1, 1974, as the date of Chrissie's death by shark at the beginning of the film. Later, however, we learn that little Alex Kintner is killed on June 29, which is supposed to be days later followinm Chrissie's death. (June 29, 1974, by the way, is the 29th anniversary of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, mentioned later in the film in Quint's magnificent soliloquy).
2. There are bare winter trees outside several shots (e.g., the meeting in the town hall) when it is supposed to be late June/early July.
3. When they are on the beach, after the motel owner informs Ellen that she'll never be an "islander" because she wasn't born there there is a shot of Chief Brody and he is wearing khaki shorts. Seconds later and throughout the rest of the scene there are shots of Brody wearing white shorts.
