The current DVD (not the first) is very well done. Sound design wizard Walter Murch ( he did the film) had a hand and Lucas himself altered the sky in the opening sequence to reflect more of a sunset to set the stage for the rest of the evening.

IMHO this film has aged exteremely well and you don't necessarily have to have grown up in that era to appreciate it.

Oh, and check out the license plate on the white '58 Chevy.
