Mine? Dunno. Day the Earth Stood Still? Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Repo Man?
Follow Ups:
maybe can't say it was a "UFO" but "Forbidden Planet" was good
The original, with James Arness as the killer vegetable from outer space.
And Invaders from Mars, also the original version, scared the bejesus out of me as a kid. The thought of being sucked down into the ground gave me nightmares. I couldn't play in the sand box for months.
.
great flick. excellent message, especially for its time.

nope
Day the Earth Stood Still is still my favorite.
Earth vs the Flying Saucers and War of the Worlds were pretty good.
Forbidden planet for earth people with saucersFor just plain loony fun with aliens, Zeiram and Moon over Tao
Hi Pam, long time no see. What were those fishing lure-type thingies hanging off the hat of the bad guy in Zeiram?
Hi Steve. Yeah, I've been mostly lurking on animeondvd lately... between that, work and trying to catch up on my dvd backlog, I haven't been around much. Been watching all those films like the Zatoichi series, Ringu, Onmyoji, Samurai Fiction and all 3 seasons of City Hunter, but I usually do peek in here once or twice a month. Maggies and a widescreen tv are an addictive combination, I guess ^-^Oh, Zeiram's hangy-downy thingies? Well, I don't really know, but I think they are there just to look cool (maybe homage to old samurai films where a rounin is wandering the countryside with his fishing lures stuck on the brim of his straw hat or something?). He has a totally different look in Zeiram 2, In "IRIA: Zeiram the Animation", they are there when he first appears but are absent in later shots of him.

Carpenter's tale of the stranded space man and his retrieval--well, done!
Especially the last shot, the one of Karen's gorgeous face lighted from above.
was a trip!

All the ones you cite are good but for me it will always be "The Day the Earth Stood Still". This 53 year old flick still has resonating power. "Major Carpenter", indeed!
When I was a kid.
I saw this Japanese production on DVD a couple of nights back and while it kind of rips off ET, Fulltime Killer and Indepedence Day, it was a pretty good film. A great and tricky twist at the end of this slick production, too.One of my all time favs is THE FIFTH ELEMENT. I just love this film. And don't forget STARSHIP TROOPERS and STARGATE, another two recent sci-fi classics.
They were all pretty good. There are probably some that I just can't remember right now. I quite like "UFO" movies yet there don't really seem to be (m)any good ones.
