Hi,

well, I figured this is the best are to make this post, so here it goes.

I am looking to buy a multi-system VCR. I live in the US, so I only care for it to output in NTSC. Basically I want to be able to convert PAL to ntsc to watch on my TV or make PC-based mpre2 files of em. I figure, while I am at it, why not get a VCR that plays all 10 types of video formats. that way in the future Ill be set if any such occurence arises.

anyhow, I was looking at the samsung SV5000....and I had seen 3 reviews...2 of them saying how poor the secam conversion was (which i dont really care about). and from the 1st review, I got the impression that the overall converted video is less than great but not terrible. well the secam rating were 1 out of 6...

and I have not seen any reviews about straight NTSC to NTSC playback. ...but I assume 2 audio heads & 4 video heads probably do the job???

I would also have to suspect this "negativity" torwards this product is from competitiors. like the world-import.com site really pushes their external video converter...which I bet is real nice. they have 30 some customer ravings about the quality.

I also looked at pro video format converters, which run $180 to $235-280. which I cant see spending that kind of cash on a converter and have to still purchase a multi-VCR...

Im wondering if basically, the lesser picture quality is intrinsic in the NTSC format....as Ive heard the rest of the world has always had better picture quality, such as seen in PAL & BETA.

does anyone have a samsung VCR? or can vouch for its quality?
