In Reply to: Warren Oates movie "Dillinger", anyone seen it? posted by grinagog on March 01, 2004 at 23:27:58:
Not a great film but a very good low budget effort. Oates is just fine as Dillinger. Ben Johnson is fine as Melvin Purvis if one overlooks the fact that the real Purvis was only about 30 when he killed Dillinger while Johnson was in his 60s when he played Purvis. Still, most people don't know that so it isn't that important.Oates is always worth watching.
Follow Ups:
which is a shame.
One where he does: "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia" is about the most Noir film ever, directed by Sam Peckinpah, and Oates is Shakespearian in his role as the gringo Benny (I love this film, I wouldn't change a scene or a word of script, its so over-the-top I don't know how they ever got away with releasing it!)
Two Lane Blacktop where as GTO he is both a pathological liar and road hog is slow and low budget but again he is great
Just bought "the River" which has him costarring with Jack Nicholson and Harvey Keitel and despite these Big Guns in the cast its really not very good, so I thought I would ask about Dillinger, many thanks for your comment I will check it out!
