Saw it.Macnamera's role in WWII (logistician for the bombing of Japan) was really interesting and was the best part of the film for me.
He did this movie to help him sleep at night. He laid all the blame of Vietnam on Johnson.
The parallels between Vietnam and Iraq laid out in the film are obvious and true. I think this was one of the reasons why Mac did the film. To show that we ARE making the same mistakes again. History will has villified him so he also agreed to do it to try and clear his name, to show how he was just a fallible man in an impossible situation. Not sure how successful he was on this.

Saw the movie, thought it was great, and like you said, the most interesting part was actually the portions on Japan -- some stuff in there I suspect many people had no idea of.
