Walked out after an hour. Preposterous, silly, uninvolving, and poorly acted, especially by the lead. Was he as bad in LOTR?
Follow Ups:
An unusual pairing and too many messages/plots.But then again, there were a large increase in all female groups of wide variety of ages that attended what is normally a "guy action flick".
A little background, for those interested.
Hidalgo was a fine movie based rather loosely on a true story about Frank Hopkins and his advocacy of the Mustang breed of horses. Viggo played the part of Hopkins well, and he looked marvelously in character on the horse, Hidalgo. Nobody has looked as good on a horse since Eastwood. Hidalgo is no Oscar nominee, but to walk out on this movie was a shame for you. What were you expecting?
a film with some originality and some good acting. To be fair, i did point out that the rest of the audience seemed to be enjoying it. But I think you'll see that this film has garnered more negative criticism than positive.
Actually, Rotten tomatoes had it a 60% positive, just what I expected. The ending had Hidalgo winning the race, then Hopkins bought the herd of Mustangs with his winnings from the US government before they destroyed it. He let the herd run free on the plains and unbridled Hidalgo to run with them, it was rather touching. Sorry you missed it.
I just looked at the Rotten Tomatoes web site and it shows 57% positive and 56% negaative. Hardly a sweep.I'm not soirry I missed it. At the time I was at one of our many Cape Cod Bay beaches watching the sunset. A far better show.
was the first thing I saw Viggo in. A very unusual movie for its timeframe. At the time I thought one thing: This guy is too strange looking to make it in movies.
I said the same thing about Lyle Lovett when I first saw Altman's "The Player".
Come to think of it, that's all anybody had to do in LOTR, was look the part...(I enjoyed LOTR, so please no flames---just a comment on the acting.)
