I don't believe it, somebody likes Monsieur Hire and Bitter Moon!Hire fascinated me and Sandrine Bonnaire absolutely melted the camera down. As for Bitter Moon, I winced through most of the movie. Its dark humor was crippling to its characters. Peter Coyote went into my "Evil Men" hall of fame. He was great.
Follow Ups:
Polanski made Bitter Moon after a novel by the French writer/philosopher Pascal Bruckner. The novel is very good and has a different ending. And, yes, Coyote was great in the movie. Bitter Moon and Knife in the Water are the only Polanski movies I like.Hire is indeed a fascinating movie, it is Patrice Leconte's best film.
I wouldn't put The Bitter Moon anywhere near the Knife... I thought it was one of the worst, cheapest films in years.
Knife is really great. Once Polanski left Poland his movies started to suck. The Pianist for example is a disaster. Bitter Moon is an exercise in dark humor. A playful and yet masochistic movie.
You don't care for "Chinatown" or "Rosemary's Baby"?
The Chinatown is kinda OK, Rosemary's is kaka... methink...But his Knife in the Water is great.
Someone wrote " clone ".
He must be right.
"You don't care for "Chinatown" or "Rosemary's Baby"?No, I don't like them much.
