You will need to point me to that discussion - where was it?

It is unfortunate that some folks take to the keyboard before learning their subject. Seems like Scott's major thesis has been "Victor hates American movies!". Mama, what a tired and stale bit of old kaka!He is right on one thing - I didn't watch much of that "movie". I would only under the threat of force to myself or my family. I think I stated before that if the LOTR was the last movie left on this planet, I would rather simply take a book or watch the sunset. But as I stated, I did see enough of it to know its quality - not much was needed, really. One hardly needs to extensively taste every bit of kaka to know what it is.
I guess that is where the experience comes in, and if Scott feels we all must experience every production out there to know something, then I think I shall gladly let him do it for all of us... as I simply refuse to waste my time on stuff I find objectinable.
Scott didn't like the quick dismissal... well, truth is by that time some of us were already tired of that old hat... of that boring subject called LOTR, and we surely could have lived without yet another reminder... this time with all that Oscar hoopla.
Sad truth is the LOTR hardly deserves anything other than a quick comment - and negative one is not exactly uncalled for. When one has opportunity to spend his time watching any of thousands of good films, stumbling on LOTR, and yet again... is a big annoyance, indeed.
You were right about being able to tell the quality of work in a matter of a short time. In that I certainly am not the quickest - I tend to give the work whole lot more time before changing channels than my wife does. She has a far more precise vision, and a virtually infallable intuition - she can tell it in just a few seconds usually. Just a few notes of the sound track usually are enough, just one or two faces... I often complain about such quick dismissal, knowing full well she is usually right. Might be interesting to see Scott surf the channels side by side with Anya - man, she is the quickest draw in the West... East... heck, the whole world seems like it.
Anyways, for people like Scott... we have been discussing movies here for long time. During that time we have covered quite a few - both good and bad from all possible places. Neither I, nor others, I belive, are going to repeat all our previous comments when a new gun comes in town. If that gun starts shooting from the hip, missing a few bad guys and killing a few horses, that is going to be his problem.
As in everything else, reading and learning before shooting your gun... or your mouth is always a good advice.
Ain't that funny how much emotion something as insignificant as a weak children's movie can sometimes generate?
Ain't is also funny how unable Scott was to show any reason why he actually loved the film? Inspite of your several requests.
What can I say more as you did as it was basically what I meant and wrote. But I do hope that Analog will do honour to his choosen moniker as it is our prefered way to hear music..in the next future of our cinema life..
"It is unfortunate that some folks take to the keyboard before learning their subject."You think becuase you watch a lot of commercially obscure movies and like them that yopu actually know something about movies? LOL. I'll take your experience seriously when I see some evidence that you can do more than just call movies kaka. anyone can like something. That doesn't mean they really understand much.
" Seems like Scott's major thesis has been "Victor hates American movies!". Mama, what a tired and stale bit of old kaka!"
Same old same old. You can scream kaka all day and still have nothing of substance to say
"He is right on one thing - I didn't watch much of that "movie". I would only under the threat of force to myself or my family."Actually I'm right about your ridiculous dismisal of "that movie" without watching it.
" I think I stated before that if the LOTR was the last movie left on this planet, I would rather simply take a book or watch the sunset."
I have no problem with your preferences in movies even though I think they show a painfully narrow scope. My problem is your arogance about your opinions. Hell, if you actually offered some substantial critiques I might be able to swallow your arogance.
" But as I stated, I did see enough of it to know its quality - not much was needed, really. One hardly needs to extensively taste every bit of kaka to know what it is."
Indeed. I don't need to read every one of your posts on this forum to know they are kaka.
"I guess that is where the experience comes in,"
Fair enough, tell us about your experience in the film world. Maybe you are quite an expert on film and are simply so brilliant and selfaware that you feel you are above critiques of substance and you feel calling something kaka is good enough simply because you deem it so. Hey, I can live with that even if you really are that brilliant in the area of film.
" and if Scott feels we all must experience every production out there to know something, then I think I shall gladly let him do it for all of us... as I simply refuse to waste my time on stuff I find objectinable."
Kind of a strwaman argument since I never said anyone has to see every film out there. But even the local idiot reviewers actually saw the films they reviewed before they made asses of themselves reviewing them.
"Scott didn't like the quick dismissal..."
You got something right
"well, truth is by that time some of us were already tired of that old hat... of that boring subject called LOTR, and we surely could have lived without yet another reminder... this time with all that Oscar hoopla."Yawn
"Sad truth is the LOTR hardly deserves anything other than a quick comment - and negative one is not exactly uncalled for. When one has opportunity to spend his time watching any of thousands of good films, stumbling on LOTR, and yet again... is a big annoyance, indeed."
As anoying as the movie geeks who think they know more than the rest dismissing anything that they think is to common for their superior taste? I think not.
"You were right about being able to tell the quality of work in a matter of a short time."I'm sorry the quality of work was lost on you. Maybe if they did away with the production value and translated the movie to some eastern European language you might be able to enjoy it. Heaven forbid film makers should do so much to create another world when creating a fantasy genre movie. It's just soooo Hollywood.
" In that I certainly am not the quickest - I tend to give the work whole lot more time before changing channels than my wife does."
I suggest seeing the movies in the place they were meant to be seen.
" She has a far more precise vision, and a virtually infallable intuition - she can tell it in just a few seconds usually."
I am trying to control my gag reflexes at this point.
" Just a few notes of the sound track usually are enough, just one or two faces..."
But heck, you don't need to see any part of a movie at all to know it's kaka right? You just have to believe it came from "hollywood."
" I often complain about such quick dismissal, knowing full well she is usually right. Might be interesting to see Scott surf the channels side by side with Anya - man, she is the quickest draw in the West... East... heck, the whole world seems like it."
It might be interesting. Quick judgements are usually pretty worthless though. Not something I would be bragging about.
"Anyways, for people like Scott... we have been discussing movies here for long time. During that time we have covered quite a few - both good and bad from all possible places. Neither I, nor others, I belive, are going to repeat all our previous comments when a new gun comes in town."
Fair enough. But I did go back to the archives to see what was said about LOTRs. I couldn't find any substantial criticism. Like I said, I could handle your arogance if you had something of substance to say. I can't think of anything of less substance than the dismisal of something one hasn't even watched. You still state your opinion on LOTRs as if it were worthy of textbook publishing.
" If that gun starts shooting from the hip, missing a few bad guys and killing a few horses, that is going to be his problem."
Your dismisals are an anoyance but hardly a problem.
"As in everything else, reading and learning before shooting your gun... or your mouth is always a good advice."
I suggest you start by actually watching a movie before dismissing it as kaka.
"Ain't that funny how much emotion something as insignificant as a weak children's movie can sometimes generate?"
As funny as movie geeks that are indistinguishable for the comic book guy on the Simpsons tossing out pearls of wisdom on cinema? Such pearls as "kaka?" I think not.
"Ain't is also funny how unable Scott was to show any reason why he actually loved the film? Inspite of your several requests."
Are you sure you read what I wrote? Or do my posts get the same treatment that the movie got from you. Do you protest movies you haven't seen as well?
Like I said, if you can some how show me that you are actually a substantial thinker when it comes to cinema and not just some geek who likes to get on a soap box I'll be far more patient with your dismisals. Like I said, anyone can say anything is kaka.
I wanted to buy the 8 1/2 sound track... so I went to Amazon and typed it... to my unimaginable horror, the system returned:"The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King [SOUNDTRACK] [ENHANCED]"
Try it if you think I am kidding.
Dear Lord... what have I done to deserve THIS?
Fortunately, typing 'soundtrack' with no space produced the right result.
I still feel there is omen in this.
Maybe Scott is working for Amazon?
Maybe Scott is working for Amazon?
I really don't know how to talk about the LOTR without holding my nose. When I was in Russia I watched the TV sometimes, and as they ran the presentation clip several times, I couldn't keet buy wonder - what happened to the formerly formidable Australian movie art?
I always kept it in high esteem, but the LOTR is bound to shake that faith.
It looks like someone had set the goal for himself - to be more Hollywood than the Hollywood itself... and succeeded.
But on the other hand, there are thousands of films that I would rather discuss than the LOTR - so as I said before - I shall let AuPh celebrate a bit, as the only sad part about the LOTR is how many people went to see it. But perhaps we all need such a reminder from time to time - for if you simply keep watching Andrey Rublev and Rules of the Game you will never know the true state of decay in which the today's society exists.
Maybe later I will have a chance to look at AuPh's screams of joy, but I suspect it will destroy the effect of my blood pressure medicine - and perhaps even force me to say what I feel.
Replace "holding" with "turning up" and you'd be more accurate. I didn't particularly enjoy this movie either. I'm not into the fantasy/sword and sorcery genre myself, particularly when it's presented with homosexual overtones. But why are you taking it so personally that other people enjoy it?You "shall let AuPh celebrate a bit"? Well, isn't that generous of you - to allow someone to praise a film that's *gasp* "more Hollywood than Hollywood itself"?
You admitted to watching TV, but managed to mitigate this faux pas by location (in Russia, where TV is undoubtably superior) and duration (only "sometimes"). But even while stooping to such a common form of entertainment, you "couldn't keet buy wonder - what happened to the formerly formidible Australian movie art", thus retaining the elevation of your proboscis.
In another thread you express "horror" that an Amazon soundtrack search for a Fellini film turned up the Lord of the Rings soundtrack! How did you survive such an insult!
I can only assume you are now awaiting the brief and poorly-written words of praise from your clique-mate in France. Or is it Germany? I forget. There's a fine line between expressing an erudite opinion on a matter of taste and simply being snobbish. You're not even close to that line.
Sorry... was there some point to your post? OK, you cried some more - no news. You recycled some old lies - no news either. You couldn't even read my post properly - your loss. You made a few rather silly and sulking remarks (about the Russian TV... he-he... man, that really hurt... but why me?), then you repeated my joke about the sound track - but why?... and then you tried to insult a good man - and apparently all because no one liked yoru whine?Het life, Dolton, this is getting silly.
BTW - to REALLY get you going, I do think the Rusian TV is superior to the American one. Of course it is also on its slide towards the US model. So put that in your pipe.
Bad electronics, not bad programming. This might be our one area of agreement: that Asian-produced television sets are superior to both Russian and American.
American televisions? Where did you find THOSE? It is easier to find a hooker with no college degree in Russia today, than an American made TV here!
"I really don't know how to talk about the LOTR without holding my nose."You can't possibly know how to talk about it with seeing it
"When I was in Russia I watched the TV sometimes, and as they ran the presentation clip several times, I couldn't keet buy wonder - what happened to the formerly formidable Australian movie art?"You might want to start your education on the subject with a geography lesson.
"I always kept it in high esteem, but the LOTR is bound to shake that faith."
It's kind of hard to take you sertiously when you can't even get the country of origin right.
"It looks like someone had set the goal for himself - to be more Hollywood than the Hollywood itself... and succeeded."
More mindless "Hollywood" bashing. Yawn.
"But on the other hand, there are thousands of films that I would rather discuss than the LOTR - so as I said before - I shall let AuPh celebrate a bit, as the only sad part about the LOTR is how many people went to see it. But perhaps we all need such a reminder from time to time - for if you simply keep watching Andrey Rublev and Rules of the Game you will never know the true state of decay in which the today's society exists."
It really is sad to see film makers pour their hearts and souls into a project and to have it succeed on every level.
"Maybe later I will have a chance to look at AuPh's screams of joy, but I suspect it will destroy the effect of my blood pressure medicine - and perhaps even force me to say what I feel."
Now I am feeling guilty. Honestly, I hope I didn't raise your blood preasure. I'm sure you are really a nice guy and I have no doubt about your passion for noncommercial movies. I have a hard time not kicking out soap boxes though.
I swear I heard about that fact before - honest... but it bears so little significance (as does the whole movie) that I suspect I will forget quickly enough again. So please keep reading my further posts on LOTR (he-he... ) and making the corrections.
A kaka by any other geographical name...
