That is indeed a very special movie... a true monument.I had to sweet talk my wife into watching it again recently... after all these years... she still remembered the profound effect of the first viewing (when it just came out), and was not sure she wanted to relive the strong emotions again.
I think I mentioned before that I believe you should see the whole Tarkovsky - his filmography is short enough for that, and each film is different.

Well, first soften her with The Steameroller and The Violine - I am sure she will love that soft human film. From there gradually increase the stress level, with Solaris in the middle, to give her a good breather before hitting her with the Nostalgia.Taken this way, I doubt she will file for divorce.
