is also outstanding, Tim Roths 1st film with John Hurt. I also really enjoyed The Limey! I will check out Genuine Risk as I am a fan of Stamp too; thsanks for the recommendation
Get Carter is still my favorite UK gangster film, that and The Lavender Hill Mob

Follow Ups:
Grin,I thought I'd better clarify an earlier post of mine...Genuine Risk isn't a Brit Gangster flick...it takes places in L.A. However, it does feature T. Stamp, and it is a pretty decent low budget gangster film available on vhs.

Grins
MY favorite Stamp performance is in "Far From the Madding Crowd", beautiful widescreen adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel.
Ditto your feelings on The Hit. Stamp in an offbeat role.It may have been interesting if Hurt and Stamp switched roles, but I like it the way it is.
Some of The Hit is pretty funny, and it's never predictable. I think Clapton did the soundtrack, but I don't remember it as being paricularly great.
FWIW, I love the Brit Gangster film Stormy Monday...a bit of a hybrid, since it stars Tommy Lee Jones and Mel. Griffith, but takes place in Newcastle...neo-noir at it's best, imho.
Thanks,
