footing as...Brando. In "Last Tango in Paris," Brando gave us a performance that transcended "acting" as it is usually appreciated.
There are many great scenes, but two standout at this moment: the conversation "confrontation" with his dead wife's lover ("what do you do for...le ventre?"); his grief at seeing her corpse--and his violent reaction, within his profound grief, at the cheap flowers.
Follow Ups:
See my post below on Brando - I know full well many consider him a monument, but I think that monument has only the rough cut done, no polishing yet.I put the Last Tango in the same forgettable bin with the Dreamers - when it is shown on TV I switch channels.
don't appreciate him.
The Wild Ones: influenced an entire generation of men; you can be tough AND show some emotion was the message many caught.
Streetcar Named Desire: he burst to stardom from his performances in the play--- and the film!
The Men: he shows his range.
Waterfront: you don't appreciate this? Kind of like scoffing at the Sistine Chapel...one can only scratch one's head at such an opinion.
Last Tango: you're around the same age...you don't "get it?"
Missouri Breaks: he showed a sense of humor, while still making a vicious character odious.
Viva Zapata and One-Eyed Jacks: even in flawed films, he is memorable.
Godfather: who else could have commanded such presence?
Apocalypse: overrated film. His performance was the only outstanding component---"the horror..."
You could see him in "Bedtime Story" and realize his gift for comedy.
I know you won't appreciate "The Ugly American" for obvious reasons, but he is quite "polished" in it.
I know many consider Brando great actor... I also know many don't.
"I know many consider Brando great actor... I also know many don't. "You know many who don't consider Brando a great actor? Do you know any actual working actors who take this position?
strongly dislike BBertolucci.
If he makes yet another one, I am afraid I will have to watch it alone, as my wife was furious last time and said No Mo.But... he should stop seeing beauty in beautiful women. ANYONE could make Eva Green attractive - no talent needed on part of either the director or the actress.
I would like to see him to take some completely unattractive actress and create a film that would make us all lust for her.
Then I would tip my head to him.
Now... which actress would that be? How about Julia Roberts? He-he... just jokink, boys and girls, just joking...
produced The Conformist!
Julia Roberts? Sorry, not even your beloved Tarkovsky could make her a babe.
