IFC is running three parts of this wonderful movie. Part 1 was last weekend, this Saturday it is Part 2. I normally don't like subtitles but for Japanese movies I make an exception.
So, warm up some sake and get ready...
Follow Ups:
fluent in the film's language. I speak several languages and have NEVER seen an excellent translation into English.
Besides, hearing an actor's real voice, with the proper inflection is a part of...well, acting.
Of course, this is predicated on the premiss that a person can read quickly enough and has good enough vision not to miss action...
I agree about the translations (though German ones are typically VERY good) but at the same time subtitles tend to disrupt my attention frm the screen (or maybe it's just my ADD)?
nt
...the story of Miyamoto Musashi.
Mifuen also played in the 1965 version. Why three parts? When does it start?
I think it is only called Samurai 1, 2 and 3 in the US (why? - beats me) and original titles were something like "Musashi Miyamoto", "Duel at Ichijoji Temple (1955)" and "Duel on Ganryu Island (1956)".
I like Tosiro a lot, he was a great actor. Interesting, how come Japanese actors don't normally merry five times in their lives?
Can you imagine, living with beloved wife for 45 years, see her die and die yourself two years later?
So non-hollywoodish...
Yes, I would actually prefer to stangle my own wife than having her for 45 years.
Very Hollywoodians......
