The film is still " dead born " It has some good moment, and for me delightful moment with Truffaut...
Follow Ups:
When I saw this as a child, long before I knew who Truffaut was, I found his character to be the most memorable part of the movie.I think this movie is at its best when it is dealing on a small scale, like Truffaut's wisdom and silent intensity or Dreyfuss's obsession with the shape in his psyche.
For me, it turns unbearably pompous and condescending when it moves to a larger scale, such as a thousand people thrusting their forefinger into the sky in unison, or when it descends into obligatory technical babble, such as the verbal instructions to "play a semiquaver". I don't know if the new version has scaled this stuff down, but Spielberg rarely makes a movie that I can tolerate, and I really do try every time. I will now open myself up for complete ridicule and admit that I did enjoy Hook.
No the new version has bloated it.
For the rest it is just my view too, with the addition that Spielberg put in Dreyfuss role a little too much of himself.
As for Hook it start well but I could not bare the over playing of Hoffman, which was a terrible nuisance, and from Williams anyway!
Lost my marbles was a very fine played line....
"The film is still " dead born " It has some good moment, and for me delightful moment with Truffaut... "Does this mean you have actually seen the new version being talked about or are you just pulling a Victor and calling something kaka that you haven't actually seen? Personally I quite like the original. I haven't seen the new version. I'm not a big fan of revisionist film making even when the director is doing it. There are some exceptions but they usually aren't really rivisions as much as they are restorations.
I see you were missing this word, so I have done you the pleasure to write it in the main title. Happy?
What do you think, That I did NOT see it and would dare to comment? Say you are sorry....
I think I have seen the three versions, yes and now ask me why did I see them if I donīt like this film, because some parts I did. As wrote in my first post.
The second version was maybe the more complete, the one with more in the end than the first but less than the third.
I think like you, most second version are not so fullfilling.
On my mind right now " Blade Runner " .
"I see you were missing this word,"Nope. Your impression is quite mistaken.
" so I have done you the pleasure to write it in the main title. Happy?"
No.
"What do you think, That I did NOT see it and would dare to comment?"I was thinking it was a possibility. That is why I asked.
" Say you are sorry...."
For asking a fair question?
"I think I have seen the three versions,"You think? You don't know?
" yes and now ask me why did I see them if I donīt like this film, because some parts I did. As wrote in my first post."
I am not questioning your choice to see alternate versions of films you didn't like over all.
"The second version was maybe the more complete, the one with more in the end than the first but less than the third."I like the original much better than the second version. The additional stuff didn't add anything to the story and, as was already said' it detracted from the sense of mystery. The second version also ommited some really good parts.
I think like you, most second version are not so fullfilling.
On my mind right now " Blade Runner " .Which second version would you be refering to?
You see what for you is " fair question " is for me " pure impertinence ". Questionning some one who wrote about a film asking him if he ever saw it, goes above my imagination, but I suppose it will depend in what kind of society you are living in...
But it ainīt mine.

But it ainīt mine. "I'm afraid it is yours given the fact that you are a regular on a message board where some people do attack films without seeing them.
Oh yeah! Who?
Victor for one. I see he has already jumped into this. Guess he already anticipated an obvious answer.
Another despicable liar visits us. Wasn't enough that we shoved your head in the latrin backet last time?
"Another despicable liar visits us."What lie would that be? You called the last Lord of the Rings movie kaka and you admitted that you haven't watched it. Aren't you the one who whines about personal attacks? I guess that makes you a bit of a hypocrite. Especially considering the truth is entirely on my side.
" Wasn't enough that we shoved your head in the latrin backet last time? "
You are in desperate need of a reality check. I suggest you pull your head out of said latrine and smell the coffee. All you did was fling feces like a money in a cage. You had your ass handed to you in our last exchange. I see it as a reoccuring theme in the future. I suggest you learn something about cinema before arguing about it.You will likely feel less compelled to resort to flinging fecal matter in the absense of anything substantial to say and you will likely get less egg on your face as well. Everyone will come out smelling better.
.
Boy you were easy to reduce to a grade school bully. Not worthy of discussion? Is this code for the hole you dug yourself into is simply too deep to talk your way out of? Here is your ass handed to you on a silver platter, once again.
Liars come in different shades. When caught, those who hade honor usually apologize.
Others - like AuPh did - will try to fade away, gently weasel out of the trap, obfuscate on their way out.
The third kind is the real scum - when caught they will continue pushing, getting nastier and nastier.
You obviously belong in the third category.
To see someone resort to filthy lies over something as insignificant as a disagreement on movies is disheartening. I am scared to think what you will do in more serious circumstances.
FIlthy scum liar you are.
Whoa there, Cochise! Your attempt at a clever euphemism for wimping out (i.e., "Others - like AuPh did - will try to fade away, gently weasel out of the trap, obfuscate on their way out") reads more like a personal testimonial, especially since it isn't reflective of any behavior of mine that I'm familiar with. However, on the bright side, it does appear that you've been bestowed with more imagination that I've given you credit for in the past. :o)OTOH, you do seem a bit confused by the fact that I don't hang around waiting with baited breath (pun intended) for your's or Patrick's next chicken-nugget of "wisdumb", but that's easily explained; BTW, all you had to do was ask. Truth is, I'm too busy to keep my e-mail linked for notification of replies, so I literally never know when one of my posts gets a response; sometimes I don't bother checking boards for several hours or even days, if at all. That may come across as some kind of nolo contendere (i.e., a declaration of having no defense) to you, but you'ld be in error, and it wouldn't be the first time!
FYI, failure to respond isn't an indication of surrender any more than it should be taken as a presumption of tacit agreement. So, if you're searching through the tea leaves in your Samovar for mea culpas, chickening out or weasels in your fox house based simply on my failure to respond, well Victor, you'd better switch to decaf.
Now even though Scott hasn't requested it, why don't you demonstrate what a nice chap you are (i.e., that you "have honor" when caught in a lie) and apologize to him for that "filthy scum liar" crack. It has left a distinct "kaka" scent upon the recent postings you've deposited in this thread.
.

"Liars come in different shades. "What shade would you consider yourself? The fdacts show you are the liar. You admitted that you called ROTK kaka but did not watch it. Oh, I forgot, you don't want to discuss the issue. the facts get in the way of your name calling.
"When caught, those who hade honor usually apologize."You've been cuaght so apoplgize. Or are you going to be a hypocrite again?
"Others - like AuPh did - will try to fade away, gently weasel out of the trap, obfuscate on their way out."
Then folks like you ignore facts and fling feces like a caged monkey. Your tactics are the worst kind.
"The third kind is the real scum - when caught they will continue pushing, getting nastier and nastier."
Look in the mirror Victor. You just described yourself perfectly.
"You obviously belong in the third category."
You wouldn't know the obvious if it bit you in the ass. You already proved that with your multitude of mindless arogant posts on film. The facts are simple. I nailed you for calling a film kaka that you didn't see. Now you are calling me a liar. You are the liar. The sort you describe here. But of course, you don't want to discuss it. Discussion of facts only gets in the way of your idiotic, selfrighteous, hypocritical attacks on others who call you out on the carpet.
"To see someone resort to filthy lies over something as insignificant as a disagreement on movies is disheartening."
It must be disheartening for you to look in the mirror
" I am scared to think what you will do in more serious circumstances.
FIlthy scum liar you are."
Monday morning quarterback internet geeks like yourself never present more serious circumstances. You and your opinions are nothing in the film world. Are you this much of a prick when you do business? If so I think I may have to audition your amps. They must be pretty awsome for dealers to have to endure your personality. Or do you kiss ass off line?
But be prepared for some healthy weaseling on part of AuPh. If you say you saw part of it and lost interest AuPh will insist you are not qualified because you didn't stay till the end.If you say you did, he will say you are not qualified because you didn't stay for dinner after the film.
And that you didn't participate in a group discussion after dinner...
And...
Truth is, he was so badly wiped last time he is dying to pick up new fight. Apparently his behind has healed.
It has not.
Nope. He got an answer. You were the answer. Funny you jumped in now. Maybe you saw it comming.
I realize that you two have a serious case of "olive parrot" dysentery when it comes to films, but confessing the crappiness of your contributions is the first step on the road to recovery; I applaud you for it! BTW, I never caught GPD (Grey Poupon's Disease) because I didn't drink from your tainted well of knowledge. As for the weaseling charge, how can folks who spread so much BS around about decadent European movies, like you guys do, fail to recognize the diagnosis, treatment and cure I provided from the last go 'round? Sorry dude, but this time most of us are immunized! Now, it's time to change reels. :o)
I remember vaguely that is is a liberal...If that is one how must be the extreme right?
;^)
nt
Who knows, the day might come when he will surprise you by saying there are some good ones.
:o)

;^)
I thought that was a compliment. Would you rather be watching the stuff AuPh grew up with in his small Texas town?Decadent European movies... see, now you will feel guilty watching the Japanese or American movies that you like.
You might refresh your memory to the fact that when I caught you with clear lies and called you a liar in your face, you smarly decided to simply quietly fade away without any further fight. I let you go that time, feeling that being publicly caught lying was enough embarrassement for you.I might be less generous next time. Today you are gently weaseling around, afraid of repeating that episode.
Smart. Change that reel now.
> > > "I caught you with clear lies..." < < <LOL! I like the choice of your phrasing here; I'm sure that you do tell lots of whoppers that catch folks off guard!
> > > "...you smarly[sic] decided to quickly quietly fade away..." < < <
Sorry, but you might understand my getting bored with your anti-Hollywood rants and Euro-cinema crusades.
> > > "I might be less generous next time." < < <
To paraphrase your feckless leader: "Bring it on!"
Dig your own filth.
You responded to my pointing this out no more than 3 minutes after asking Analog Scott who attacks films without seeing them. Gotcha! ;^)
Dirty job, as I have 40° fever, and have the " Passion " body feeling.....
;^)
Centi! Of course!
;^)
You probably don't know, but in Texas a steak is 2 kilos, and human body temperature 200 degrees. Explains why AuPh loves Alien.
Clark Johnsen (i.e., in fairness, he may not be the only one) has been known to post reviews from secondary sources of movies which he hasn't seen; he has even gone so far as to agree with the review simply because he approves of the "reviewer's tastes". So, given these circumstances perhaps you can understand why someone might query you about having seen a movie or a version of a movie that you've dissed with little or no explanation.BTW, I think Victor needs to clean your cage; too much kaka! ;^)
And choose you for the cage cleaning.....As we all live in cage. More or less.
... your's & Victor's! ;^)
About Close Encounters and Blade Runner, that is. I assume you've seen the far superior narratorless version of the latter? Or doesn't that matter? And if so, why?
nt
You originally said the film is " still 'dead-born'" (emphasis mine, of course) or something like that, which suggests that, whatever version, you didn't like it. There are only two versions of Blade Runner, so far as I know.
There were two original versions and at least two more alternate versions released in various formats.
Yes but three from " Close... " The first movie, then a second with a longer end ( you see more from the " aliens " and the third that we now have on video.
I prefer vastly the first version of " Blade Runner " it maybe more " Hollywoodian " ( he is not a replicant ) so more rassuring, but I did was more concentrated and more narrative in the poetic sense. I was really ready to love the the second, but I could not. Even I knew that it was more " near to the book ".
Just a matter of taste, I suppose.

Ton cul.
Gee Patty, if you're gonna tell the guy to "kiss your ass" (or whatever it is you said), you should at least do it in a language that we can all understand.
It wonīt harm you if you make a translation once a while, I have to do more than that, au contraire, you may learn something....
Audiophilander, by the way can....
P.Hearst
When you are the one typing on an English speaking board in other languages all the time? It's like talking French in a room full of English speakers so that they can't understand that you are insulting them. It's just rude and I wish you would stop.
Besides, when I pasted your message into a translator, some words were not translated because you misspelled them. Sorta like "courtoisie"
So stay me out the way, please.
Who on EARTH are you to tell ANYONE to stay out of your way on a public message board? Where do you get off? Do you think you are special, or what?
Listen, we all have bad and difficult days sometimes.OF COURSE you have right to post what you want. But are you someone who will beat that right out of anyone, any time?
You see Victor it was less a question of bad, but not having the patience from this kind of post today..He is complaining that I use " foreign words " and that IS the matter.
In what world does he live?
That is his problem, but wanting me to join him, that merite the riding crop.
And not ONE word in his post about films, just his own frustration..And that was too much for me to cope with...Today.
Hey Vic,No, of course I understand that everyone has their sucky days.
But if Patty feels good enough to tell AuPh to "kiss his ass" in French, he can't run and hide when someone calls him on simply saying to please post in the common language we all post in on this board.
He can't have it both ways.
Best,
First " coutoisie " is a French word it should not put to much strain on your imagination to find out.
Second it was not " Kiss my ass "
Third if I want to insert from time to time a French or German word or Latin or italian, and you do not like it, so just donīt read my post .
If you think it is against the rule try the moderator option.
The problem is that you do not seems to overcome the heated discussions we had sometimes ago.
Reconsider your animosity, or avoid my posts.
I just want to speak about films and not about behaviour.
A bonne entendeur, salut!
