  What you should look for is a true Panavision wide screen transfer, if indeed one exisits. The ones I've seen are pan and scan.

    The only DVD release I've seen is foolscreen - and it's a crime to buthcher this gorgeous film.

    Upon reflection, once you've seen it a couple times, the subtitles are almost unnecessary. Or maybe there's a PAL version from England or Oz?

  You have to be careful whether it is a DVD or a VCD; VCDs are quite common in Asia, and are considerably cheaper, and of low quality. But $175 dollars is outragous.
