I don't like John, but I thought his Ripley was a passable film, if considered within THAT particular genre. It certainly was not the worst in that admittedly uninspiring category.Hannibal OTOH has no redeaming values whatsoever, it is simply idiotic. Comparing to it Ripley is a light and elegant fare... strange as it might sound.
Based on this, I presume Hannibal had greater commercial success.
Follow Ups:
entertainment. "Hannibal" was nothing more than that; "Ripley" was, quite simply, boring.
Well, we of course all have our definitions of what boring is, but I stayed up late watching it, so it didn't exactly bore me to death. It is not a great film, but not a total loss either... again, for its genre.Hannibal was truly idiotic, objectionable... not because of the gore, but because it really treated the viewer like brainless shit.
Speaking of brainless, I turned it off when they got to the eating brains part.
...there are all those idiots sitting there, trying to figure out what will shock the viewer who has seen just about anything by now.
A little more, it had a hint of fine humor, well the kind I love.
