Caught this film last night on Sundance channel. What the $^&* !?
I just didn't get it, and it was stomach-churningly "gross," kinda reminds me of "Boxing Helena." Anyone else seen it, and know what the hell it was all about?
Follow Ups:
It was the only movie that made me physcially jumped out of my chair when it suddenly turned extremely violent. That was difficult to forget, but I must say, it was too dark to be enjoyable.
I was warned not to see Audition. I can't stomach gross/gore.
There seem to be two different types of Japanese horror out there.
One group tend to be rather gross/gorey/violent such as audition, suicide club, battle royale. The other group tends towards less blood, and more spooks, such as Juon, Darkwater, Ring etc.
I really enjoy the later, but not the former.

his friends idea had fatal flaws
Well, it is very... Japanese. It is a beautiful gory film. Boxing Helena? Well, that one was just a bore, I thought, but Audition, while certainly not everyone's cup of blood is a beautiful creation. What was it about? There was art in it.
