This is a one joke preposterous star vehicle from a few years ago but the stars (Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, Tommy Lee jones) are so likeable that it is an enjoyable two hours, even though you can predict exactly what's coming. NASA re-recruits four former hot shot astronauts to resusitate an ancient space vehicle with primitive computer codes. James Cromwell is the villainous NASA Director.
Follow Ups:
This is a fine example of Eastwood-the-director in his relaxed mode of peaceful reflection and understated humor. I think this is one of Eastwood's better films. On that note, I was pleasantly surprised with Blood Work after hearing so many negative things. It was great simple story-telling, too rare these days.
The plot is stupid and so are the technical and political sides of the movie, but the actors are good enough to save anything.
I actually watched it twice, which does not happen too often. :)
I hate this film, but the actors just as you said.....BUT only one time, so I am NOT " gaga "....
Rico,Yea, I got a kick out of it too, but only for the old timer actors/star power...I really liked the Jay Leno scene. Don Sutherland was really funny as the old lecher.
T.L. Jones was good, but he must be almost twenty years younger than the other three...got an opinion on another "oldie" that could have filled Tommy Lee's role?
Paul Newman would have worked, but that might be to much star power! Redford? Michael Caine?
Regards,
I knew TLJ was younger but not by that much. How about Harrison Ford
in that role?
I was the youngest person there and I'm 50+. Shrewd marketing at play to get those retirees off the sofa.
who's th3e fourth. Jones only appears in one role.
