In Reply to: Three films: Unfaithfully yours, The Unforgiven, and Cluny Brown... posted by patrickU on April 25, 2004 at 00:49:51:
I agree with your assessment of "Cluny Brown", but I respectfully disagree with your view of "Unfaithfully Yours." While Sturges could be spectacularly uneven, I think that this is his last really good film. Not up there with "The Lady Eve," "Hail the Conquering Hero," or (my favortie) "The Miracle of Morgan's Creek," but how many comedies are? "Unfaithfully Yours" is not bad considering he made all but one of his films in an 8-year period. Perhaps if you think "Unfaithfully Yours" is outdated you prefer the Dudley Moore remake?
Follow Ups:
Well, we donīt have the same view on this one! Dudley Moore..Can not remember, only the one with Bo....
But Cluny Brown, this one was a real pleasure even if a Lubitsch weaker one.
The first time I heard of "Cluny Brown" was in Pauline Kael's capsule review: "A girl who likes plumbing meets people who don't want to admit they have pipes."
