if it isn't done right. No different than digital cameras. Reviews of the 2.0 megapixal Canon A60 is rated better at taking pictures than the 3.2 megapixal Sony's.I have LDs that look better than the DVD counterparts - both on Pioneer players.
I have not seen Pal players but I thought PAL was supposedly a superior system than NTSC. But then a Honda civic Hatchback has far better reliability at 15k than any Mercedes at any price. Mercedes in North America is viewed as something extra-ordinary --- a suoperior car with bags of prestige --- their cars are true junk but high prices and a mystique factor are enough to get the sheep in North America buying...relegated as cheap taxi cabs in Europe.
Follow Ups:
Honda better than Mercedes? You must be jocking! With or without marketing.
Go check out the Lemon Aid on Mercedes and Honda/Acura.Europeans don't know how to build cars -- when I hear the advertiser saying "German Engineering" I say "Thanks for the Warning."
I said more reliable - learn to read.

Can you tell us a couple of LDs that look better than their DVD counterparts?
The English Patient, Jaws, Aliens, Alien(though I understand there is now a third DVD version) Halloween, the Exorcist(though there is yet another fixed up version on DVD).Lots of DVDs are way better than the LD versions especially the older LDs like Airplane!, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, American Werewolf in London etc that had pretty lousy LD transfers. But there is the key word --- TRANSFER. The LD medium was excellent. Same for DVD. Some just had better transfers. A new English Patient is coming out which should fix it up - and Aliens will have the noise and pixilation fixed up I'm sure.
