It's a pretty pedestrian war movie form the 50s American war movie school. Extremely old fashioned rah rah America flick.Do yourself a favor and rent the Band of Brothers DVD set. It's the best WWII film ever made. Similar in look, grit, attention to detail, and tech to Privat Ryan, but less sentimental and trite.
Follow Ups:
The B-of-B? I bought if more than one year ago. Not only it is one of the best, but one of the truest to the real thing, I guess.
I found the takong of the artillary emplacement in the second episode the most thrilling piece of (filmed) combat I've ever seen. The credits tell us it is still cited at West Point today as a classic.
I think that the last disc was the weak part of the lot.
I enjoy it a lot.
